We attempt to make surgery site care as user-friendly as possible. There may be a bulky pressure dressing in place over the site for 24 hours. Patients are usually able to remove this dressing at home. At this point, there may be surgical tape in place over the actual surgery site. This is usually left in place for a week. After a week, you will have been instructed to either return to the office for suture removal or, if absorbable sutures have been placed, to remove the tape at home.
Some areas like the back of the ear, lower leg, or scalp can be hard to visualize. If it all possible, we recommend having someone available to help you with surgery site care if needed.
Our surgical staff will review wound care with patients and families once the surgery is complete. All patients are also given detailed wound care sheets. Of course, please feel free to contact us with any questions.
